I am a coffee-powered, creative, and nerdy, gadget-geek who has recently decided to go back to school and become a computer programmer/software developer. I love God, photography, reading, and the web. Once in a while, I pick up my dusty guitar and play until my fingers hurt. In outdoorsy moments, you can find me camping, hiking, or fishing. In a past life, I obtained a BA in Music Composition, but I didn’t use that degree much. Then, I was the directing cinematographer of The Video Scribe, but that company is in a bit of hibernation for now while I learn to program, and that C# is more than just a difficult key to play in.
In this blog, you will find thoughts about any of my favorite things, and maybe some snapshots too – at no extra charge. So if you wanted to know the juicy (albeit nerdy) details of Tracy’s life, you’ve hit the pay dirt.
Nerdy Cool Things I Have Done This Week
BlackBerry Curve
Just over a week ago, I upgraded from a BlackBerry Pearl to the Curve. So far, I’m in nerdy-gadget-lover heaven. I can’t seem to keep my eyes or my hands off of it. Some of the cooler things I have done with “Friday” (I name all of my gadgets) this week are, tethering him to my laptop (Smithers) as a modem, and installing WordPress for BlackBerry on him. I had a post almost done, telling about this, but a bug crashed it when I tried to add a link. That would have been my first post to this blog using Friday and WordPress for BlackBerry, but my first post using the app. was on my other blog, The Video Scribe.
This guy needs no introduction
I have also had a grand time using the FaceBook app for BlackBerry, which seems to run better on the Curve than the Pearl. The larger screen on the Curve allows more information before the need to scroll down. The FaceBook notifications never worked on the Pearl, which had to do with how I had things set up. With some tweaks to my message applications on the Curve, I now get FaceBook notifications pushed to my BlackBerry, allowing me to check them at all hours of the day or night, if I want to. Some intervention may be required.
TwitterBerry, which became “OpenBeak” recently, also looks and runs nicer on the Curve. As soon as this post is finished, I’m headed over to OpenBeak to upgrade TwitterBerry (which is a way cooler sounding name) and give it a test as well. Here’s a better description of OpenBeak.
So, that’s about it for the Geekend so far. I’ve managed to do a tiny bit of video work, and am headed back to that now. I confess, it is hard to stay on task while on CrackBerry.
