A Sacrifice Made For Future Gain

November 3, 2007

Saturday is observation day.

Observation: 1.an act or instance of noticing or perceiving.

autumn leavesI love Autumn; it is my favorite season. This week, the weather is perfectly cool and the trees are in full Autumn regalia. I long to go for a hike in the woods, but… I have videos to edit here at home. Therefore, I continue to hole up in my home office, living on cold pizza and water from the bathroom tap (it is closer to my office). Staying indoors is just one of the abnegations I have made (for now?) to become a freelance videographer.

Not that this denial of outdoor pleasures is completely without balance. I am simply engaged in what is, for now a higher, more pressing claim. Video production is one of my passions too. Yes, I am holed up in a small room at home, but I am truly doing something I love. How many people can say that? When my eye wanders away from the computer monitor toward the window, I remind myself that I am turning something I love into a gainful (hopefully) venture.

Videography is something in which I will always be engaged, even if I don’t make money doing it. For now though, I am trying to make a business of it, so I am willing to sacrifice my time spent outdoors to only include things like mowing the leaves and short walks with the dog - in town.

It is totally worth it.

Autumn In The Park

October 20, 2007

Today I had a video shoot with three senior girls as part of their Senior Video Package. We went to 1000 Hills State Park in Kirksville, MO where the trees are beginning their colorful exit into Winter. The day was warm for late October, but the wind was more like March. We got some great shots and I am anxious to get these videos put together, which will be in early May, before graduation parties (as these are all school year in the making). The three girls are friends, so much of the footage will be suitable for all three videos.

Today’s shoot was one component of the Senior Video package offered by The Video Scribe. The Senior Video can include still photos (growing up montage), past “home movies,” video from special events throughout the year, birthday parties, best friends, sporting events, band concerts, interviews, and whatever else the senior might like to include. These videos take senior portraits to the next level and make great additions to the graduation reception.

Autumn Leaves Means Outdoor Video Shoot

September 23, 2007

It is Autumn in Kirksville, MO and the leaves will be turning soon. That means the time is near for shooting senior videos. Once the leaves are just right, I will take a break from editing wedding video and go to Forest Lake at 1000 Hills State Park for some outdoor shooting of my seniors.

This year, I have three seniors who will be making senior videos. The shoot at 1000 Hills is just one component of their senior video.
